Most people of a certain net worth understand that charitable donations are an excellent way to reduce your overall tax liability. What most people do not understand, regardless of the state of their personal balance sheet, is how to know that the donations you make are, in fact, tax deductible. It can be frustrating and costly to donate what you believe to be tax deductible money to an organization, only to find out you receive no financial benefits whatsoever from that donation.
If you reside in the Sacramento area and are considering charitable donations or other forms of gift-giving as a way to offset tax liability, you should speak with a attorney who is experienced with Sacramento charitable donation tax deduction to explore your best options.

How about if I just go through the insurance company?
People want to believe the insurance company is on their side, but the reality is that the job of the insurance company is to make a profit and pay out as little as possible. Your insurance company may discourage you from hiring a lawyer knowing you are more likely to receive a higher amount of compensation with a lawyer handling your case than if you settle directly with the insurance company.
By hiring an experienced injury law firm, you gain access to resources and specialized knowledge to stand up to the insurance companies. An attorney will also take the time to fully assess the extent of your injuries and demand compensation to properly address your losses.
Help for the entire family
Dealing with the aftermath of a serious injury changes everyday life for the injured as well as the entire family. With one of the highest per capita income rates in New York State, Nassau County is also one of the safest areas in the United States, according to a 2005 report in Forbes magazine.
Despite this, Nassau County and Long Island have their share of infamous criminal cases. Unlike charges leveled daily for traffic or theft, these cases and the legal dramas and criminal defense attorneys that followed were the subject of continuing headlines and a great deal of sorrow.
Some of the more notorious crimes in the Nassau County and Long Island area include the following:
- The Long Island Lolita: While running an auto body repair shop in Baldwin, Joseph Buttafuoco became sexually involved with an underage woman from Wantagh named Amy Fisher. The affair culminated with Fisher shooting Buttafuoco’s wife, Mary Jo, on May 19, 1992. Fisher served seven years in prison, and Buttafuoco served four months in prison on one count of statutory rape. Buttafuoco continues to exploit his minor celebrity status, and he has served additional jail time for insurance fraud. Fisher pursues a career in adult films. Mary Jo survived, is deaf in one ear, and suffers partial facial paralysis.
- An Affair Gone Wrong: Born in Suffolk County, Daniel Pelosi worked an electrician at the East Hampton home of Generosa and Ted Ammon. Pelosi and Generosa began an affair. Estranged from Generosa, Ted Ammon was bludgeoned to death as he slept in October 2001. Convicted of murder, Pelosi is incarcerated in the Elmira Correctional Facility and will be eligible for parole in 2031.
- The Innocence Project: On September 7, 1988, the day he was to begin his senior high school year, Martin Tankleff was arrested for the bludgeoning murders of his parents in Belle Terre. Following a sketchy investigation, Tankleff was convicted of murdering his parents as they slept. Sentenced to 50 years to life, Tankleff served 17 years before his convictions were overturned. Tankleff was released from prison in 2007. In March 2009, Tankleff filed suit against Suffolk County for unspecified damages and the opportunity to expose police misconduct in his case.
These are just some of the dramatic cases that have risen to headlines in Long Island and Nassau County in the last few years. The players in these stories include defendants, prosecutors, and the criminal defense attorneys who work to safeguard the rights of those accused. If the police look your way, retain the best Long Island criminal defense lawyer you can find because your future may depend on it.

-Take safety precautions. Turn on hazard lights and set out cones or flares if you have them. Provided no one is seriously injured, all parties should move their cars to the side of the road, out of the way of oncoming traffic. A minor accident can turn into a major one if your cars obstruct other drivers and cause additional accidents. Remain at the scene of the accident until help arrives, and if the police come, remain until the police officer says you may leave.
-Report the accident. If anyone was injured (especially seriously), you need to call the police and 911 for medical assistance. You also need to report the accident to your insurance company the same day it occurred. Some insurance companies have coverage stipulations about reporting accidents in a timely manner. Make sure you file a police report and find out how you can get a copy of it. A Virginia police crash report contains detailed information about the accident that can be useful later in proving a case.
When you are involved in a car accident it is also important to contact a Vienna auto accident lawyer soon after so that they can collect all of the facts of the accident while your memory is still fresh.
